🥘 Our Homestead Kitchen

Our kitchen is the heart of our home.

I cook for a family of five, which means meals aren’t just about food—they’re about stretching a budget, planning ahead, and making sure everyone is fed, even on the busiest days. I’m always thinking not just about today’s dinner, but also about emergency days—the days when life gets overwhelming and I need something ready to go.

That’s where this journey really began.

Over time, I started learning how to make more things from scratch. Not everything—not yet—but little by little, we’re getting there. Each new recipe is one more step toward becoming more self-sufficient and more intentional about what we eat.

I don’t come up with most recipes on my own (at least not in the beginning). I pull inspiration from everywhere—cookbooks, online recipes, and things I’ve seen others make. But once I get comfortable, I start adjusting things, making them simpler, more affordable, or better suited for our family. That’s when a recipe really becomes ours.

This shift toward cooking from scratch didn’t just happen overnight.

It came from years of struggling with my weight and wanting something different—not just quick meals, but better habits, better ingredients, and a better relationship with food. This kitchen is part of that change.

It’s not perfect. Some meals are still simple, some are shortcuts, and some don’t turn out the way I hoped. But every meal is progress.

This is where I’ll share what we’re making, what we’re learning, and how we’re feeding our family—one meal at a time.
